Carissimo Zio Enrico
Waking up this morning,
it sinks in "you are gone"
our tears water the earth as today they lay your body down.
Walking under wide Arizona sky I feel your joyful, life-filled Spirit soar
Smiling through my sadness, I look up and pray:
May God give Expansive Radiance to your Soul!
A pause and chuckle with your answer:
Yahoo, He already has
You are always a Mentor, a Muse of creative and life-expanding energies in my life. You were there to teach me how to debate, balancing the injunction to 'be nice' while nurturing the intellectual forces that led to college and career.
How about the piano and singing with the whole clan of Tropea-Marani's in the "whoopee room" of our lives. "Blue Moon" still rings out in my memory as all the Marani men outdid the ladies singing out fully and over and over again!
The memory of Nana and your Garden came around full circle with my beloved Carl's expertise and the sharing of seeds and stories that spurred us on to grow, not just vegetables, but ourselves.
La Famiglia Italiana that you directly enabled with my first trip there in 1971, miraculously life-changing at that time, and continues to be a joy shared with you. Seeds of connection with different people, ideas, cultures that with your blessings continue to blossom throughout our lives.
When I heard you had died, I thought of the story you told when you took Nana to Italy, her only trip back to beloved family she had not seen for over 50 years and your first trip there.
When you got to the airport in Milan, you both saw a crowd of village folks gathered on a mezzanine above, that attracted your attention. As you got closer they unfurled a hand-made banner that read: Welome Home Teresa! In my reverie, I see that same banner held by Teresa, John, David, Margaret, Evo, Louis, Alfred, Angelo and all of your beloved family and friends, Beaming Joy as you approach:
WELCOME HOME, BELOVED ENRICO!
